    Expressing myself
So I've finally gotten stable enough at work that I have time to pursue some of my other interests. This time around, it's writing a blog on digital culture, particularly writing about ways in which digital stuff impacts my mom's generation, my generation and my kids' differently.

Because I'm a professional writer, I find myself compulsively checking spelling, searching for better details and the like, but it's basically a brain dump on my reactions to digital news.

The blog can be found at http://borndigital.blogspot.com and I'd love to get your reactions to the material. If you have stories to suggest, I'm up for that too.

Other than that, how the heck are all of you? I've been reading your posts but always up for more.

    The wisdom of the Dori
Quick take from our family life...

Me, annoyed with Benny, who's filling our car with unnecessary noise: "Hey, how many times do I have to tell you not to...?"

And a little Dori voice pipes in: "One, two, free (three)."

LOL. Almost drove the car off the road, but it was worth it. :-)

How does one stay awake at 2PM? yes, PM
I don't know about you folks, but for some reason (nature? biology? my habits?) I tend to be HUGELY sleepy at 2PM regardless of whether I got plenty of sleep or not. And now that I have a classic Desk Job (TM) it's a problem, as I find myself falling asleep with my chin in my hand at work. I always manage to shake myself out of it (and thank you God, some days I don't feel it). But has anyone else coped with this problem?

New job, new hassles, new fun ;-)
    Hi all --

I don't know who reads my Live Journal, if anyone, but here I am updating it nonetheless...

Anyway, to anyone who might be interested, I've now got a new job. I'll be senior copywriter with an enterprise software company called Approva (www.approva.net) which, for anyone who knows about the business, seems to be a pretty well-fixed and funded company.

The folks there agreed to pay me what I was looking for without any argument, thank the Lord, and I'll be getting bonuses as well! All in all it's pretty neat.

As some of you doubtless know, prior to this I'd largely been freelancing for seven years, give or take a year or two where I was more or less unable to make any income at all (!) To anyone how doesn't know the story behind that, it's a long and difficult time -- to summarize, I'd just as soon not relive those years, ever.

All in all, it looks as though we're finally getting on our feet once and for all. Now if anyone has a nifty job for Darren in the DC metro, we're all ears. :-)

    Here I am!
Well, despite myself I've been sucked into the Live Journal-verse, having watched Darren over the corner of my shoulder many times and gotten myself hooked unwittingly.

I'm actually enjoying reading friends' posts a great deal. I've been moved, surprised, saddened, gladdened and lots of other things ending in -ed as I read, and given how little time I've had to *actually spend time* with friends, it's particularly nice to be in their lives in some form.

As for my life, I have little to report other than that I'm looking for a permanent job (the last two supposedly temp-to-perm jobs have stayed temp). We're doing okay financially, and more surprisingly, emotionally, and that of course is a Very Good Thing.

I'm going to do what I can to keep you all posted. Please keep those fun words coming on your end!
